Help us build Terraso in 2024

If you are a user of Terraso or belong to a landscape, we want your input on how to enhance Terraso in 2024!

We build Terraso through a participatory process. Our roadmap is generated and prioritized through feedback from landscape members, which helps us ensure we provide the most value.

Right now, we plan to make these improvements to Terraso:

  • Story maps will be more flexible and run on more devices: Story maps have been, by far, the most used part of Terraso. We expect to allow users to share maps made with their data within story maps and to customize the look and feel of their story maps with different basemaps. We will make story maps editable on low-resolution screens so users can make stories on their smartphones.

  • Data will flow more easily to Terraso: Many co-design partners have validated KoboToolbox as a useful data collection tool, but integrating it within Terraso has been challenging. In 2024, Terraso users will log in to Kobo using their Terraso account, and pull data from Kobo into their landscapes and groups.
  • Data on Terraso will flow more easily to other platforms: The Terraso team has always recognized that users own their data. This means that part of our responsibility as a data management platform is that it should be easy and simple for users to take their data off of Terraso, and bring it to the other platforms they use to manage their landscape. We plan to make it easier for users to share their information with tools like LandScale

  • Terraso features will be more powerful by linking more to each other: We have always envisioned Terraso services as being most effective when they complement each other. We will make it possible to use outputs of some processes as inputs in another. Maps will make data collected with Kobo and other tools easier to understand. Story maps will be enriched by presenting data with narrative context and media. By making Terraso’s various features pass content to each other, we can build upon the value provided to Terraso’s users.

  • Terraso will help landscape leaders achieve their management goals: We will allow users to showcase projects and happenings within landscapes. Users can collaborate in these projects, and also present their work to funders. We will also allow users to discover interesting work from other landscapes, and assess their own progress in their journey to practice Integrated Landscape Management

Want to shape Terraso to meet your own needs?

We’ve heard these requests from our landscape partners, and we want your help in prioritizing what to work on, especially if it isn’t already reflected in our plans (we know that there will be things needed by landscapes that aren’t on this list!).

That’s why we are hosting a workshop to prioritize this list. We will have two sessions on February 1, 2024. We hope you’ll join us if you belong to a landscape, particularly if you have used Terraso. Participants will receive honoraria.

If you’d like to help us shape our roadmap for 2024, you can do any of the following:
